Joint Planning Commission, Social Impacts Planning Sub-Committee

Summary

It has been decided in the committee that the logic topics to be studied under social impacts include, but are not limited to, housing, social services (police, mental and physical health) education, family and neighborhood relations, and quality of life. Although there will be some overlap with the work.of the other sub-committees (tech- nical, business-economics, and recreation-environment) it was decided that the committee should proceed independently for the present at least. The topical areas were assigned to individuals expressing special interest in the area. THE MODEL The information will be presented to the Joint Planning Commission within the following parameters: Population of the valley----1,250 (the estimated present level) 2,500; 5,000; 10,000; and 20,000. Economic base---- 1) an economy primarily tourist oriented 2) an economy primarily mining based 3) a mix of the two OTHER ELEMENTS OF THE MODEL 1) Since the recreation industry is firmly established in Gunnison County and is one of the three legs of the local economy, a survey will be made to determine what ele- ments are necessary for such an industry to thrive and grow, especially in reagard to
