CONFIDENTIAL DRAFT Center for Environment & SustainabilityCONFIDENTIAL DRAFT Western State Colorado University Coldharbour Chair In the Winter of 2014, the Gunnison Housing Foundation generously gave Western $150,000 to match Western in hiring a full-time faculty member with half-time reassign to serve as Coldharbour’s (now also ORE’s) Executive Director over the course of four year. In the first year, the person we hired merged Coldharbour with ORE, while delivering educational programming at Coldharbour like a summer environmental camp. This person served Western well in the classroom, but was quite buried in the necessary work of Coldharbour, and thus struggled to serve graduate mentees and Western colleagues well when the Spring came around (estimating 40 hours per week Coldharbour, 20 hours per week Western). Western fully expected things to improve in the second year: the Coldharbour Chair had only one course per semester (each already prepped) in 2015-2016, the board was hiring a staff member to lessen the Coldharbour load, and the ED had a very supportive board coming together on a shared vision. Western thus proposes to shift the position to invest the funding to better reflect the workload. Rather than two courses and four mentees per year over three remaining years, Western proposes condensing the funding over two years instead so that the position can be a Western faculty member with .7time reassign to lead Coldharbour. The Western .3 would be: e Teaching(.2): Each year, she or he will teach twoMEM or ENVS courses per year. We would hope that the courses could fit with Coldharbour goals so Coldharbour land and larger efforts could be a site of student projects and field trips for that course. e MEM Mentoring(.1):Would take on half of the original number of mentees per year for the
