Gunnison Valley Sage Grouse Strategic Committee help completing Programmatic Environmental Assessment for Habitat Treatment – Improvement for the Gunnison Basin Population of Gunnison Sage-grouse

The Gunnison Valley Sage Grouse Strategic Committee for the County of Gunnison, Colorado is requesting that your agency help complete a Programmatic Environmental Assessment for Habitat Treatment/Improvement for the Gunnison Basin Population of Gunnison Sage-grouse. This Committee was created by the Board of County Commissioners to work with the Gunnison Sage Grouse Coordinator to implement programs and steps which will aid in the preservation of the Gunnison Sage-grouse. The Gunnison Valley Sage Grouse Strategic Committee is comprised of members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. Members represent: High Country Citizens Alliance, the Bureau of Land Management, b¥ the Gunnison County Stockgrowers, the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Colorado Division of Wildlife, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the U.S. Forest Service, the National Park Service, the Development Community, and an At-Large citizen. An action step that came out of the February 22, 2006 meeting of our Committee was the need to develop a Programmatic EA to cover the implementation of the many different types of habitat treatment/improvement practices that could be implemented in the Gunnison Basin to benefit sage-grouse. This document should meet the goals and objectives of the Gunnison Sage-grouse _..--- { Deleted: be tiered to Rangewide Conservation Plan, be tiered to the local land use plans for the agencies, cover the implement projects much quicker and more efficiently. This effort would help the County address one of their goals and action steps to work with agencies to develop uniformity of requirements that are consistent and predictable, and help to insure a coordinated review process of permits and projects.
