Abstract

Abstract 'Pungo' Irish potatoes were planted on Mar 24, near Beaufort, NC. Single row plots 25-ft long were replicated 4 times in a randomized complete block design with 5-ft alleys between replications. Pretreatment counts of Colorado potato beetle were made by examining 3 plants/plot and recording the number of adults, larvae and egg masses. Treatments aimed at the adult populations were applied on Apr 18 followed on Apr 19 by post treatment counts. Two egg masses/plant were also taken to check for ovicidal and residual activity. Plots were sprayed by grower on Apr 27 (Sevin) and Apr 30 (Lannate). Due to poor timing of applications (as indicated by counts on May 2), treatments were again applied on May 9 followed by post treatment counts on May 11. All treatments were applied at the rate equivalent to 100 gallons of water per acre using a 2.5 gallon CO2 pressurized hand sprayer operated at 40 psi and equipped with a hollow cone nozzle. Yields were not taken.
