Abstract

ABSTRACT: Brandon field, first commercial Mississippian oil production in Colorado, located in Kiowa County in southeastcrn Colorado, was discovered in August, 1965. Initial completion was madc in carbonate rocks of the Osagcan Series (Mississlppian) at a depth of 4770 fect. The twentyfour producing wclls drilled to datc have cstablishcd production also from the Mississippian St. Louis. Spergen and Warsaw Formations, covering a stratigraphic interval of 300 fcet. Petroleum is entrappcd in a large anticlinal structurc that shows cvidence of early Palcozoic growth, this anticline now is locatcd along the northeast trending Las Animas arch, which generally is considercd to be a Laramidc fold. Uniquc cxploitation problems are caused by a very low rescrvoir prcssure, heterogencous development of porosity and an extensive fracture system. Cumulative oil production through March 1968 was over 1, 200, 000 barrels.
