The Bureau of land management Kerber Creek restoration project
Abstract
From May to December, 2009, I worked as an intern for the Bureau of Land Management in Saguache, Colorado, primarily on the Kerber Creek Restoration Project.Mining during late the 1800s to mid 1900s resulted in mine waste deposits along the creek.These wastes had detrimental effects on the creek and riparian zone.The goal of the Kerber Creek Restoration Project is to improve conditions in Kerber Creek and the surrounding watershed.During my internship with the Bureau of Land Management I monitored water quality, evaluated aquatic invertebrate abundance and composition, assessed fishery abundance and diversity, determined upland vegetation Cover Frequency Index, and collected preliminary stream channel morphological data.Working closely with Steve Sanchez, Natural Resources Specialist, on the project from May-December 2009 taught me
