Description
Short-term incubation of caddisfly larvae in filtered pond water to measure nitrogen and phosphorus excretion rates under ambient conditions. Five larvae per species were incubated for one hour in shade with water samples collected before and after for nutrient analysis.
Typical Equipment
- Ziploc bags
- syringe
- inline filter holder
- 25-mm Gelman AE glass fiber filter
- amber Nalgene bottles
- glass test tubes
Output Measurements
- ammonium-nitrogen excretion rate
- soluble reactive phosphorus excretion rate
- total dissolved phosphorus excretion rate
- mass-specific excretion rates
- molar N:P excretion ratios
