City of Gunnison Master Plan Update Progress Report #5 Housing Policy Options

Summary

The table below contains housing policy options, most of which address “affordable housing”. The policies range from a “hands off” approach by local government to various incentives and/or requirements to encourage or mandate the construction of new affordable housing units. The table includes a column for members of the Steering Committee and the Planning Commission and others to express their degree of support for each policy. The various policies are derived from: # Suggestions provided by the public at the first public workshop 4 Written survey conducted by city staff ¢ Interviews of community leaders conducted by the Consultants # Policies recommended in the 1994 Master Plan and the Draft Gunnison County Comprehensive Plan Policies and practices adopted by other communities The table is preceded by a draft statement of “Desired Future Condition”, which is a suggested housing vision statement that the policies should attempt to achieve during the next 20 years. The purpose of the table is to facilitate participation by members of the Steering Committee/Planning Commission and others in choosing housing policies that are appropriate for the City of Gunnison. Policy options will be prepared in future progress reports for other plan elements, such as land use and growth management, economic development, etc. It is hoped that this process will result in a consensus about suitable policies by “weeding out” those that are not considered to be feasible or practical for Gunnison.
