Description

The data set “Snowpack_Snodgrass_AS.csv” consists of the snowpack data measured by the PhenoCams at each site up Snodgrass Mtn, Crested Butte, Co. To calculate snow depth each fall, we placed a 3-meter PVC pipe in the ground in the field of view of the PhenoCam. We spray painted 25 cm alternating increments of red and white, with each meter labeled with a black stripe. Using the downloaded PhenoCam images, a calibration curve of pole height to pixels was calculated. The amount of non-snow-covered pole pixels for each image was quantified, and the snow depth was calculated using the calibration curve. Sites are abbreviated versions of site names and phenocam numbers, i.e., hc7= high_conifer_Snodgrass_7.
