Description

This is a map of vegetation canopy cover or density for the Upper Gunnison River Basin based on 2015 and 2019 LiDAR data. Cover is measured as a proportion (0 representing no cover, and 1 representing complete cover). This measure of cover is the inverse of the canopy gap fraction. This dataset was generated from the normalized, elevation-corrected LiDAR point clouds, and was calculated as

Density = N / T

Where N in the number of LiDAR returns greater than 2 m above the ground surface, and T is the total number of returns. Calculation was implemented in the R package lidR. The ground-classified points were first used to generate a bare-earth surface, which was subtracted from the point cloud elevation to generate the normalized point cloud.

Topographic artifacts and structures have not been removed from this dataset.
